Congratulations Chris Nicol!

Seldom are the terms 'cancer' and 'good news' heard together, but two local researchers are not only creating good news in cancer research, they've both just received some.

Doctors Wendy Parulekar and Christopher Nicol have both received research project grants from the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation to further their work in studies looking to improve the quality and length of life for breast cancer patients.

Nicol is an associate professor in the department of pathology and molecular medicine at Queen's University. He is currently studying a protein, PPARgamma, and how, when activated by drugs used in the treatment of Type II diabetes, it may slow or stop the spread of breast tumours.

Nicol's grant is for $438,089 over three years.
