The Tron laboratory is funded by CIHR and has a successful history of research in the area of skin cancer. Our approach integrates clinical and basic research, with an emphasis on areas of research with the greatest potential public health benefit. Thus, although we are basic scientists, our ultimate goal is to minimize morbidity and mortality associated with human disease. Currently, we are using using state-of-the-art RNA interference (RNAi) technology and novel tools for RNAi drug delivery to develop novel treatments for malignant melanoma, a particularly serious and often fatal type of skin cancer.

The other major area of research is in the role of microRNAs (miRNAs) in malignant melanoma.

The Laboratory for Skin Cancer Biology and Therapeutics is located on the fourth floor of the Richardson Laboratory on the campus of Queen's University, attached to the Kingston General Hospital.
