RESEARCH OVERVIEW
“Molecular and clinical aspects of von Willebrand disease”
Our primary research objective is to improve the understanding of inherited bleeding disorders with a particular focus on von Willebrand disease (VWD). Our projects not only examine the molecular genetic basis of these disorders, but the clinical impact on individuals and populations as well. We are particularly interested in the quantitation of bleeding symptoms and understanding correlations between bleeding scores and biologic markers of disease. Ongoing projects include a national study on Type 3 VWD, a project evaluating the role of aberrant von Willebrand factor splicing in VWD and studies designed to develop and optimize tools for assessing bleeding symptoms. |
