RESEARCH OVERVIEW

“Compartmented signaling in cells of the cardiovascular system: Roles in angiogenesis”

The ability of cells to faithfully decode information provided by extracellular signals is accomplished through integration of the involved proteins into signalling complexes (“signalosomes”), and the intracellular anchoring of these signalosomes into discrete compartments. We are elucidating how cAMP- and cGMP-signalosomes are established in cells of the cardiovascular system and investigating how they regulate cellular functions of import in angiogenesis. In addition to providing fundamental insights into cellular signaling, our studies test the hypothesis that regulating events within cAMP/cGMP-signalosomes provides increased selectivity over that offered with agents that do not discriminate between individual signalosomes.
