RESEARCH OVERVIEW
“Vitamin A and D signalling and metabolism in health and disease”
Vitamins A and D regulate many critical physiological processes both during development and in adults. They interact with nuclear receptors and regulate transcription of genes that control cellular processes such as proliferation, differentiation and programmed cell death. Consequently, these vitamin signalling pathways are important for the normal form and function of tissues. Although each vitamin has distinct functions, there are many overlapping functions and disease states that can be modified by manipulating vitamin signalling and metabolism. We are developing therapeutic agents that can modify vitamin A and D signalling in chronic kidney disease, cardiovascular disease, diabetes and cancer. |
