RESEARCH OVERVIEW
“Systems Pathology: Identification of multi-component therapies in cancer”
Omic technology has provided information-dense knowledge describing the network of interactions of the proteome. While this knowledge provides important correlative links between protein(s) and disease, it does not account for the dynamical behaviour of these interactions nor of the network as a whole. Systems approaches integrating mathematical-modeling and experimentation go beyond protein interactions by simulating the biochemical mechanics of signal processing. Such mechanics encode so-called ‘emergent’ properties of network behaviour indiscernible at the level of individual interactions. We are employing systems-level approaches to study signal mechanics underpinning cancer with the aim of pinpointing drug targets for combination therapy development. |
