“Antiangiogenic therapy for endometriosis”
Endometriosis is characterized by the growth of endometrial tissue outside of the uterus. Establishment of a blood supply is crucial for survival and growth of endometriotic lesions, and this requires recruitment of endothelial and hematopoietic progenitor cells from bone marrow to the neoangiogenic sites. We are investigating specific mechanisms supporting blood vessel growth in endometriosis that can be safely targeted using anti-angiogenic therapies. We have established a new mouse xenogenic engraftment model and currently validating the efficacy of several anti-angiogenic compounds. We use a combination of molecular biology approaches, patient-based studies and immune deficient mouse models. |
