Genetics

The Division of Genetics includes molecular and cytogenetics studies which are applied to inherited as well as somatic disorders.  The Genetics division offers genetic tests which may be diagnostic, prognostic or predictive in nature.  The division also acts as a send out laboratory for genetic testing that is done elsewhere in the province.  Consultation on appropriate testing is also offered on demand. The following services are available:

  • DNA/RNA extraction/banking
  • Hemochromatosis testing
  • Fragile X testing
  • Huntington disease testing
  • Factor V and Factor II testing
  • Hemophilia A and B testing
  • BRCA1 and BRCA2 scanning
  • Amyloidosis testing (TTR  gene)
  • Sequencing for known family mutations
  • JAK2 testing
  • B/T cell clonality
  • BCR/ABL testing
  • Karyotype- constitutional
  • Karyotype- somatic
  • FISH- constitutional
