Awards and Prizes

  • 2019.9-Congratulations to Taha for winning the Robert Kisilevski Research Award for Best Departmental Research Seminar by a PhD student. Each year, there are only 3 awards including one for 1st year MSc, one for 2nd year graduate student, and one for PhD student in our department

    2019.6-Congratulations to Taha for winning the Silver Medal of the 2019 CIHR National Student Research Poster Competition, during the 32th Annual CSHRF (Canadian Student Health Research Forum) held during June 10-14 in Winnipeg. Only 1-2 graduate students are nominated from each department at universities across Canada to compete in this national research competition.

    2019.5-Congratulations to Ellen for winning the Health Science Outstanding PhD Thesis Award at Queen's University.

    2018.9-Congratulations to Ellen for winning the Robert Kisilevski Research Award for Best Departmental Research Seminar by a PhD student.

    2018.6-Congratulations to Taha as one of 4 PhD students/postdocs representing Canada to spend a week with over 40 Nobel Laureates at the 68th Lindau Nobel Laureate meeting in Germany from June 24 – June 29, 2018. [See it here]

    2018.6 -Congratulations to Neil for winning the Undergraduate Biochemistry Research Prize for most outstanding research project in the Department of Biochemistry.

    2017.11 -Congratulations to Ellen for winning the poster award at the Canadian MD/PhD meeting (CITAC annual meeting) in Toronto! There were 10 awards given out and 98 posters presented in total.

    2017.9 -Congratulations to Taha for winning the The Robert Kisilevsky Researech Award for the best seminar by a 2nd year graduate student in our department.

    2017.6 -Congratulations to Taha for winning the Gold Medal of the 2017 CIHR National Student Research Poster Competition, during the 30th Annual CSHRF (Canadian Student Health Research Forum) held during June 6-8 in Winnipeg. Only one graduate student is nominated from each department at each university in Canada to compete in this national research competition. Yang Lab has won the Gold Medal 3 years in a row!

    2017.4 -Congratulations to Taha for winning the Vanier Award! Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarhip is the most prestigious graduate student award in Canada. Most significantly, Taha ranked 1st out of 190 outstanding nominated candidates by all universities across Canada!

    2016.9 -Congratulations to Ellen (Helena) and Tess for winning the Robert Kisilevski Research Award for Best Departmental Seminar Presentation by a 1st Year PhD and 2nd year MSc student, respectively.

    2016.5 - Congratulations to Ellen for winning the Frederick Banting and Charles Best Canada Graduate Scholarship Award from the Canadian Institute of Health Research (CHIR). This award supports Canadian graduate students who demonstrate outstanding achievement in undergraduate and early graduate studies

    2015.6 - Congratulations to Yulei for winning the Gold Medal of Canadian Institute of Health (CIHR) Poster Competition. Over 120 top 5% graduate students nominated by different universities across Canada participated this annual research presentation competition in Manitoba, Canada
